Thats the name of the school? Anyone ever heard of it go gone there? How do the courses and prices look? Heres the website. http://www.modernwelding.com/profess...ding/index.htmThanks
Reply:Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean much cause I''m on the other side of the country. Some community colleges have good welding programs and are usually alot cheaper than a real welding school. My local college has classes for $20 a credit hour. 3 credit hours is a one semester course 2 nights a week. Pretty good deal.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:How many welders with repair rigs have gone to a welding school? Have you Desert? I dont really have a local college. My local Vo-Tech is supposed to be getting a welding program going in the next year and they will be offering adult classes. But id rather go to a welding school. Id really like to attend lincolns school. But its more money and farther away.
Reply:99,OK I live about half an hour from them. So do you want to hear what they will tell you. Or do you want to hear what I have heard from guys that went there. Now to be fair, I went to a State sponsored school through Unenjoyment. I was planning to go with the State paying, but the guy said what about XXX they are right down the street and only a 5 minute drive from my house. From what I have heard the School ( MWS) is just a normal welding school. They guy who owns it, pushes guys through and out so he has room for the next batch. On the other side I have heard about half the class is high due to smoking pot in class( got to love welding vents). Everybody I have worked with from their have been good welders. Of course with this area being a small welding group, if you suck as a welder forget about getting a job. And they teach you all forms. Mig,Tig, and Stick. But you have to pay from an ala cart menue. If you are willing to move to Albany area and have the money for the school and rent it's not bad. You will not find work in this area right now. Their has not been a welding opening online in almost a year. Go to indeed.com and use the area code 12304 and you will see. Also for a fun note for those reading this. Their is a zip code 12345 as you always see on TV. And it goes right to GE. They have their own Zip since 1940's when GE had over 45K yes Thousand people working in one plant. OK, back to the topic. so 99 if you have any other questions let me know. I will try to find out anything you need.
Reply:I went to the local college for certification classes and testing. It's very affordable and local = convenient. We don't have any real welding schools around here, that I am aware of anyways.Last edited by DesertRider33; 06-20-2009 at 11:56 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:It depends. Alot of companies accept general certs like AWS D1.1 or D1.3 if what they're doing falls under those qualifications. If they have a very specific procedure, then they'll want to do their own certification.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Originally Posted by loudnproudmost companies certify their own welders whether you have you're own or not. you apply for said job, they test you and you are certified for that company to perform similar welding tasks as your entrance test/certification process). they normally don't pass on to other companies and you don't own the cert. you can get your own certs such as a aws qc-7 ($$$) and generally they expire in 6 months unless you have documented field welding time.at the lincoln school you only get half the welding time for almost the same price as hobart institute of welding technology which is not far from you. hobart is on the cutting edge of the industry and constantly being improved. i have attended the school and highly recommend it over lincoln, tulsa, and smaller "tech" colleges. what matters most in the beginning is hood time and knowledge. you'll only get better with ongoing practice.
Reply:Originally Posted by 99trxriderHmm.. Ill have to look into the Hobart school. They wouldnt even accept a general plate cert? I have a place called Arrow United about 20 mins from my house. There a company that makes steel and aluminum doors and over hangs. Im going to try to get a Co-Op job with them during my senior year. Dont know how that will work being we start school in August and I dont turn 18 till September. Idk. Hopefully I can be there doing something and eventually be able to weld once im 18. Hell id be happy just moving the materials to the welders. But they've got some people laid off so they prolly wont hire. Gunna try anyways.
Reply:Have no idea how to TIG. My little high school doesnt have that kind of money or interest in welding
Reply:AWS D1.1 4G on 1" plate qualifies you for unlimited thickness in the 4F/4G position on plate. Does not qualify you for any other positions. 3G on 1" plate qualifies you for unlimited thickness on positions 1, 2 and 3, joints F and G.To be qualified for all positions and joints on plate, you need both the 3G and 4G tests, or the 6G pipe test.6G on 6" pipe qualifies you for all positions and all joints on plate and all positions on pipe of 6" and larger diameter.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I went to MWS. My boss wanted me to learn TIG, so he set up a tailored course for me and paid my way. I'm sure there are more thorough schools out there, but I liked how they teach what you need to know (book-wise) and focus more on the hands-on approach. There is no better teacher than experience. Reading information about welding isn't going to teach you to weld; It does give you insight into the proper techniques, and many of the insane number of variables that you need to take into consideration while performing or planning a task. But all of that book knowledge does not teach you how to "read" a weld pool. Best of luck though, in whatever direction you take.Last edited by papabear; 06-22-2009 at 01:26 PM."SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns.
Reply:I know expierance is the main thing along with the hood time. I read books just for pointers. You can read all the books you want but you have to beable to apply what you read into the weld your doing. I know that. Ive never even seen a TIG welder though. So I need to learn that someday. Thanks guys. |
