I recently acquired an old and rarely cleaned 14ga stainless table that has some superficial rust on the underside and legs.  The rust is very, very thin so I don't want to go too aggressive on the table and take off the brushed texture.Does anyone have an suggestions on how to take the rust off the stainless steel?  I was thinking of a 3m bristle disc on an angle grinder or die grinder.
Reply:a brown scotchbrite pad will take the rust off and blend in with the brushed marks.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:it depends but really once stainless is contminated it is contaminated but you might try an acid we do use that sometimes at work for mild contamination
Reply:There's a kitchen cleaning product called "bar keepers friend".In powder form, mix it with water into a pasty slurry (or just buy the liquid), and rub with a non-abrasive scouring sponge.  It will take the rust right out if there's no pitting. Its oxalic acid based.  Abrasive on a brushed finish is ok, IF you get something that is close to what brushed it in the first place (and rub in the right direction).  Brown scotchbrite is probably too fine, and could rub down the surface.  Anyway, if its just minor rust, you may not need abrasives anyway.
Reply:baking soda and a damp sponge

Reply:I have heard about cola, tried it in the past, but didn't have any luck.  And yes, it makes a *mess*.
Reply:I tried the Cola Can, but maybe I crushed it, when I should have just flattened it.  It scratched up the table a lot.  I can see where , if it had been flattened instead of  "Wadded up", like I had Bubba do it, it might have worked a little better...overall, though, I was not impressed.  I'm going to try the Bar Keeper's friend..Does anyone have her number??"Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
