Needing a cylinder for MIG; found new one for $198, which is a bit more than on line; have to add tax but no shipping since local.  Is this not rather high...thought stuff might be a bit lower considering the economy and all?  Have watched CL but not much happening there for several months now.  Kinda tics me off since I know it will be mine until the first filling when they keep mine and give me a rusty turd.  They kept my acetylene tank although it was painted red with my name in huge bold letters on the side.
Reply:Where you at in TN Chris? I got my tanks from volunteer in Nashville(80's) and I think they were only $125(each) or so. This has been many moons ago(1998). The tank I got for my 75/25 was also from volunteer, I leased a 120 for three years for $200. I've also talked to the guys over at Airgas in Columbia about getting a helium tank and they said I could lease a 200 or 300 for $60/year. I think they had a 5 year lease for $175. I saw some tanks on sleezbay the other day and another place to look is craigslist. Found some 80's down in Atlanta for somewhere around $100 for two.aka Cumminsguy71 at other forums....would not work here??
Reply:The $198 sounds like you got list price from a counter salesman.  I worked for a LWS for 12 years and have been doing repair work for them for almost 13 years. Three ideas to get  abetter deal. 1- I believe you could get a better price from the outside salesmen for your LWS.  Give them a call and ask to speak to the outside sell rep.  Tell him you would like to get a 80 cuft cylinder and see what price he offers.  I would be surprised if it is not lower than $198.2- Also, if there ar two LWS in the area, get a price got from both and see if they will match or give a better price.  3- If you a small locally owned LWS you will get better pricing and service than one of the National or regional firms.  Some times you can talk directly to the owner or the manager and tell you are getting into welding and are looking for a supplier to take care of all your needs.Maybe one these ideas will work.OAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:Also: if you have the room for it, go bigger than 80cf.  You'll save the cost difference in a few refills, since (at my LWS, at least) the price difference to fill a 125 rather than an 80 is only an extra $4.  And for what it's worth, the price difference between the tanks is only $25.  ($170 for 80cf, $195 for 125cf, last time I checked.)On top of that, it's a pain in the neck to run out of gas and have to go in to swap tanks.
Reply:Where in Tennessee are you?I have a multitude of bottles I will sell you cheaper than 198.00
Reply:Im looking for an Argon/co2 bottle in Tn too, over between Nashville and Jackson, also a good source for steel new and scrap if anyone can help!Thnxgreg
Reply:Knoxville.  Had a better price than before on 80 so bought it, but still thinking a 125 would be better size perhaps.  Or if I run out send DW to refill one while I still w-o-r-k.
