I could not find the answer I was looking for when I did a search so I thought I would try here.I am wanting to find tips for overhead welding with a mig. What I am doing is welding a piece of 5/8 flat bar to an upright post as a hinge brace. When I am welding the weld on the underside I am having problems with keeping the weld somewhat flat. Now I know that gravity is working in my favor and I will not have a completely flat weld. I am just trying to get the proper penetration without having my weld droop down so much.Any suggestions?Thank you, BoLast edited by TXweldor; 08-18-2009 at 06:13 PM.
Reply:One of my tricks on overhead welding is to"v" the metal. On both sides if possible that way the weld extends or penetrates to the opposite side offering a foothold as you weld.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back. |
