A local org. that takes disabled kids on outdoor trips like rafting and camping had their trailer stolen a few weeks ago. Our group stepped in and came up with $1000 in cash donations and the same amount in material donations. We built them a much nicer trailer in two days. There was plenty of trash talking, wheeling, welding, drinking, swearing, and other good natured fun to be had. The local news even covered it. here is the main frame taking shape... The news anchor wanted to lay down some welds. I think she might have weighed 78 lbs. My new buddy Rich cooks a mean burger Shawn in his ToyotaLast edited by Hickey; 05-24-2004 at 05:48 PM.
Reply:Rubbing some rigs together... Oh, and we actually found some time to finish what we showed up for. We started this whole thing just a week and a half ago, quite a few of us dropped everything to run around getting donations from buisnesses and individuals. One local trailer builing company tossed in complete axles and surge brakes. The trailer that got stolen didn't even have brakes.
Reply:Where's the picture of the Hottie News Anchor without some fat guy standing in front of her?No helmet obstructing our view either.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Unfortunately, many pics were lost due to the bulk consumption of certain liquids. Including the pics of a different hottie showing cleavage whilst operating the chopsaw.

Reply:Awesome,Its good to see a 4x4 club getting some decent PR these days. Way to step up and help out a local charity.JH
Reply:That's awesome!!! You have to go a LONG way to beat the kind of participation and output you can get from a group of off-roaders!!!!There was a lady locally who's family has been in to wheeling for years, she had a terrible accident, left her chair-bound. Their club pulled in $40K worth of donations on a Jeep they built to raffle off....These are the stories that make me think the human race just might have a hope in hell! Keep up the good work guys!!!Driving a Jeep is like drinking tequila... At some point you're gonna get the misimpression that you're bulletproof and invisible... At that point, if you're smart, all you can do is hang on and pray that it ends soon. -- Me.
Reply:Thanks guys. When we found that we had enough donations, a member suggested we just go buy a trailer. He was nearly shot.
Reply:why would you buy one? you would not get the good PR for the club, the members would not get the opportunity to show the community that they care enough to give their time and expertise, a really good community activity would be missed by all of the participants, the rest of the community would miss the goodwill generated by the building and by the publicity, the news station would give it slight coverage if any at all, and generally the whole thing would be nothing more than a check-writing exercise. its impossible to put a dollar sign on the human things that happen when people get together for a good cause and give it something from their own hearts and hands. nobody would look at that bought trailer and see the local boys' heart in it. with this one, everybody that knows about it will see their community effort and caring every time that trailer gets used. how do you put a price tag on that!btw, I hope the builders put a dedication plaque on it or at least signed it with the club ident. its always good to remind other groups that opportunities to do good works come along from time to time and we all appreciate them doing it, and will for a long time. every time you invest your timein something like this, you place a brick in the building of a better humanity in your community. We may recall, the Greatest Builder first took a place among us as a carpenter, not a banker.
Reply:Great job. It does the heart and body good helping others and seeing people help others. Speaking of helping---Quetion of the week; Just how many big ugly thugs does it take to put a helmet on a 78 pound cutie news anchor?"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt |
