Reply:Thanks Guys!!The car models are made mostly from 1/4" rod and were done freehand. I have a Datsun Z in my garage that I used for measurements, the Lambo was done off a 1/24 scale model. The engine I used a Hot Rod Magazine. Bugman, funny you should ask as an blue AC Cobra is next on my list. I call them my garage art and hang them off the wall. I'd like to have a bunch of the classics and create my own wire car garage.  Thanks for the encouragement. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Well, if I could talk you into making 2 of them how much would you want to sell one?    Please............I'm a certified Cobra nut!!
Reply:Sounds like a home business to me.Garage Art, Inc...If there is an easy way to build more of them, sounds like there could be some buyers.I just might be in line for an Cobra.Luck and the stuff looks great.NnF
Reply:Now ya got me thinking!! I put around 40-50 hours into each I've built so far. A lot of time goes into grinding / cleaning up the welds. (I'm using a flux core mig) What do you think they are worth? I could save some time and reduce the price if anyone was interested in a rough / unfinished one and do the grinding clean-up themselves. I'd be interested in some comments on pricing for both finished and unfinished models. FYI, they are around 2' long when complete
Reply:With that amount of time put into them they will be very hard to sell at a profit.  Your best chance will be to get a gallery showing.  I do metal art and it is a tough business.  It is very hard to make a living unless you are getting large commisioned pieces.  But it is a lot of fun to do a few shows a year and show off your stuff.
Reply:Pricing for mostly labor can be a problem. You need to decide what you are worth, calulate out the hours and material and set a price. If you target businesses for your main profits, then maybe you can cut the profits selling to indivuals.Luck,NnF
Reply:To get a reasonable return considering the time you spend on the pieces you are looking at selling them for upwards of $1000.  It will be very tough to sell them outside of an art gallery, but they are certainly gallery quality pieces.  I do metal art and it is a tough business.  It is very hard to make a living unless you are getting large commisioned pieces.  But it is a lot of fun to do a few shows a year and show off your stuff.  If you are interested in finding a gallery showing here are some tips.  Finding your first show will be the hardest.  Galleries like artists who have previous shows and newspaper clippings about your work.  Take a lot of pics of your work.  You will have to spend a lot of time calling galleries before you find one that's interested.  Your work is high quality, you will eventually find one.  Keep a theme to your show.  Obviously yours is an automotive theme, but the more wire frames you can display the better.  There are very few artists doing wire frame autos out there.  Make some smaller, less detailed pieces.  Most galleries charge 40% commission.  This means you'll have to sell a piece for $1600 if you want to make $1000.  Having a number of less expensive pieces will help you sell more work.
Reply:Interesting stuff Pablo, thanks. I really just do this as hobby and doubt that I will pursue it at that scale. Bugman, did we scare you away with these price ranges? (they would if I was a buyer).
