Once again, necessity becomes the mother of invention.We needed a gate to keep the new baby off the stairs, but the trouble was...finding one to fit the application. Wrought Iron/steel railing on one side...wall with corner bead and hand rail nearly overlapping it on the other. 44'' opening.Solution:18' of 1'' square tube12' of 3/4'' square tube18' of 1/2'' square tube1' of 3/4'' round tube1' of 5/8'' round bar1 bent lawn mower blade1 barrel latch (modified into a spring loaded unit)1 Lincoln Pro-Mig 1351 Angle Grinder (with grinding wheel and cut-off wheel) Unfinished:Finished: (Etch Primed and finished in Hammered Gold)Hinge:***The hinge posts are long because I originally designed a 'catch' (instead of using a latch) that was supposed to work by 'lifting' the gate to open it...but that proved to be impractable for the wife..as the gate is a bit heavy. Modified Latch:Hopefully, baby won't be falling down the stairs anytime soon...LOL.
