its the auto darkening with the respirator..learning how to live with it....not real happythe headgear on this helmet sucks..doesnt have a downstop so if you lift it and put it back down then you end up looking at the inside of the helmet..i know its not a flip style helmet but it cant be removed very well with all the airflo gear on it if you cannot tilt it.also with all the air gear it makes it hard to take off and on. i do alot of repairs on factory eqpt./piping/pkg mach/structure/fab'g and sometimes its only on for 5 min 20 times a dayalso it has only 2 flash sensors..usually fine..but doesnt always catch iton the other hand...it flashes off/on anytime a strobe light from an alarm is goin off anywhere in the building..some of them are quite far away and they still make it flash oiff/on...even on the highest sensitivity it cant be stoppedthe airpac is cool tho..unless its cold like today and it made my eyes hurt cuz it was blowing cold air into them for 1/2 hrwhos had some exp with these and how ya like itthanks gary
Reply:I have the Adflo system on one of my helmets.Mine does have a down stop which should make a seal at the top of the mask so air doesnt get in. Not had many problems with how it turns on/off.  I do change sensitivity for TIG welding. It is heavier than the standard helmet and a little more clumbersome to use at times.I only use mine when im going to be welding/under the hood for at least 3 hrs or more or when its hot ( nice breeze in your face ).When i do a lot of short welds, i use a 9100XX with a gas respitator underneath. ( or when i forget to charge the battery on my Adflo )
Reply:Mine has a down stop also.  I have a big problem with my helmets fogging so I bought the SpeedGlas with the Adflo.  I really like it expecially when it is hot.  Not so great in the cold though. It does stop the fogging even in the cold but my head is cold.  I love the visibility with the helmet. I have the 9002v  I think.  For short and quick welds I use my 3m AD.  The adflo system is as you say a little cumbersome to put on and off. But overall I wouldn't want to be without it.
Reply:It sounds like you could get away with a regular hood and a half mask respirator for your short uses, unless you're welding in confined areas and OSHA or other safety code is requiring you to have a powered air system.   Personally, I wouldn't buy a powered system or wear one unless I actually needed it as a requirement of doing the job.  It's annoying enough to wear all the leathers, hood and respirator all day, let alone a powered system.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:All the Speedglas 9000 and 9002 Series have a "Down Stop" in the form of a travel stop on the inside of the helmet on the right side. You should have a plate between the headgear, and the helmet shell with slots in it, and a matching raised bar on the shell.....Moving the plate, and selecting different "slots" to engage with the bar on the shell, will vary how low the helmet drops. You can select from having the helmet stop several inches from your chest for overhead work, to having the shell ride right on your shirt for up close work that is below you.Owning 2 Speedglas helmets, I am not wild on the headgear itself, but have never had an issue with  a travel stop in the down position.Hope that helps.Later,Jason
