i dont know what i need, but here's what i want it to do:1. put buffing wheels (the cloth ones) and polishing compound to polish small doo-hickies i make.2. want to try sharpening my endmills/drills. i dont know how yet, but i want to learn.3. (maybe) put wire wheels on it to take off mill scale, prep for welding4. (maybe) grind my tungsten. so far my sander is doing a fabulous job, but i'm willing to try different things (before i got my sander, i put my tungsten in electric drill and hold it with my right hand... with my left hand, i held my 4 1/2" angle grinder from HF with grinding wheel attachment... yeah, belt sander with 80 grit works better)i definitely want to try to sharpen my endmills (will get attachment to do this later). so what size would be good for the above things i want to do? 6, 8 or 10 inch? I would prefer 110v. what size arbor? i think they are mostly 3450rpm, do the smaller ones have more torque? which ones bog down easily?this is my price range ($110-$145) http://www.etoolsrus.com/browse.cfm/4,3276.html
Reply:I don't polish by hand anymore...I quit that after I had to polish 5 hand pieces. I still polish about 10 pieces a week though.Jet is an alright company.Try http://www.wttool.com/
Reply:I just have a little 6" grinder that I use for polishing and grinding. I don't remember the HP rating off the top of my head, it was a $60 unit from Delta. It seems to run the grinding wheels just fine, but the buffing wheels can bog it. I really don't know much about using one to sharpen an end mill and what is involved there, but I would think the power would be sufficient for making fine cuts. It's a small unit, but works for my light duty fabrication needs. |
