Is there a difference between an acetylene tank and an oxygen tank?  Do they have different technical specifications?
Reply:They are completely different. The O2 cylinder is used to store high pressure gas, has a heavy wall and has a valve specifically for O2 with a burst disk designed to relieve the pressure if the tank become over pressurized. An Acetylene tank is filled with a pourous media and acetone to stabilize the acetylene. It is a low pressure tank with a valve designed for only acetylene. It usually has a fuseble plug or low temp solder joint seam that is designed to melt and leak in a fire to allow the acetylene to slowly escape and burn rather than explode.I'm not sure what you are trying to find out exactly. If you have one and want the other, most welding supplies will trade out owner bottles for ones with a different gas, usually just charging for the gas as long as the hydro dates are good and the tanks are similar in size. There is no way to put O2 in an acet, tank or acet in an O2 tank if thats where you are going..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Just the explanation I was looking for. Thank you very much.
