Hey..I've currently graduated from Hobart Institute Of Welding Technology(Troy,OH). I know how u guys and gals love pictures. So here it this is some of the pictures i took from the last week i was there. I have currently been hired in the Pipefitters Union in Dayton,OH.I will throw these pics out there for some of u that haven't seen it done before and for the profesionals for their advice. These pics are of 2G 6" pipe..Tig/Stick Combo..The Tig portion is done with Tig root and Tig Hot pass. The rest is done with stick..The first stick passes are done with 2 passes of 3/32 7018 rods and then after that it has 2 passes of 1/8 7018 rods and then the cover consists of 4 passes of 7018 rods. Reply:Looks real good there bud.   If I were in your shoes Id personally try to get so I could do it all with one size tig rod, and one size 7018(1/8")Ive used the 1/8" ER70S with good sucess.  However, I think you got the concept down.   Good job !IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Would be interested in seeing piucs of the backside if possible thoughThats often the most importnat thing to look atIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I'm sry i didn't take any pics of the inside i'll take some...I run the 1/8" at about 105 amps. I use a jackson NexGen. I watch the puddle and read it till i get till about a 1/16" at the edge of the bevel and it fills up nicely but i do see where your coming from but if you can fill up with bigger size rod that means less time and money if u see where i'm comming from.
Reply:That root face was 1/64 which meant i filed off the burrs of the lathe. I used a 1/8" spacer wire and all the tig was done with 1/8" tig rod.
Reply:All the tig was done with "walking the cup technique" alittle differernt than my first post in Mig/tig/stick/oxy post under 2" 5G Thing wall. It is the same concept only on 2G that make us do it right and left handed..half and half. I hope that anwsers your questions Tex
Reply:Hey Tex...I see what your saying and i understand what your saying now...I went to sign the papers today and seen some of the welds i appreciate the advice u gave and i'm sry we had a fall out eariler and had a fight i understand now that some know better than others...i respect you advice and for that matter... i would like more imput and i want to learn so much about welding! so any advice would help!
