I'm thinking about building a gin pole to put on the back of my truck, but I don't know where to start. I want to make one that's able to swing back down and rest on the headache rack so I can drive the truck with it back there. I think I might have the idea of how I want to build it, but the real drawback of it is the "winch" will be an old Cyclone chain hoist, I don't have an actual winch for it. The hoist has about 15ft of load chain and 20ft of chain to work the hoist so it'll be good enough for what I need, I'm thinking the A pole shouldn't be longer than 20ft. All I plan on doing with it is pulling engines or moving steel and junk around. Any ideas or pictures??????Last edited by RobertDoubrava; 04-27-2006 at 12:40 AM.RD 1984 Chevrolet C30 welding truck1966 Lincoln SA200 Continental F162 1942 Lincoln SA200 Hercules IXB-51991 Lincoln LN25
Reply:Ive seen em...but no good suggestions.  They are usually built with A frame and attacched to the frame near rear of truck.  Arent real common.  I think Ive seen em with some oil field hands.  There kinda outdated.  Not real fond of them myelf, but they will work I supposeIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:About the only ones still in operation are the well pump setters rigs. Find out who does the bulk of the pumps in your area and go check 'em out. I see some that look fairly new.
Reply:Northern Tool sells them from under a hundred bucks to five or six hundred.
