Pics of mig welds.

Wondered if any experts could tell if there "passable" welds from pics?  Any tips, advise, critisism is great if you don't mind givin direction to help me improve.  thanks
Reply:Not too bad.  Pretty nice, in fact.  Looks like you might have a fusion problem on the weld in the lower picture on the right side of the leg (lower right side of the if the _l_  )  ...but, the rest look pretty nice.Last edited by smithboy; 04-26-2006 at 11:08 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:thanks Smithboy.  so what didn't i do to get good fusion there?  concentrate heat more in that direction?  turn up the juice?  seems that sometimes i get a big bulging bead, like the wire speed is up too high, and other times it seems to flow and melt/dissapear right into the two pieces.  Both with same mig settings.  i've laid a coulple of beads like that one.  one side of the bead penatrates good and the other side seems to just roll over and lay on the steel.  in these cases, can i go back over the bad side of the bead or do i have to grind and re-do?  thanks again.Tim
Reply:It looks like you might have just angled to gun too much toward the top.  Maybe there was a gap and you chose a side.  However, I don't think it is a problem in the overall structure.  You could just grind it a bit (or not, and grind after you touch it up with another pass) and aim more agressively at the bottom piece.  You might even try a slight circular or zigzag weave to widen the bead a bit.  If you can lay it in the flat position, it might be easier to get the two sides to flow together...AND, you can add a bit more heat if you weave or lay it in that position...all of which will improve the weld.  But, like I said in the post above...not too bad.  If you left it as-is, it's probably fine as long as you don't go dropping a few hundred pounds on it from a distance.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:my thoughts...see where the weld ends and there is this yellow dot?thats where cracks can start under loadthere is a weekness in the hole ..thats why its yellow..when you stop a weld count to 2 and ...zap! that area again (short bursts)and do it again ...you want a t!T not a **** there ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
