I have a project. How can I cut the barbs on the end of this tool? I know how to bend and weld it just don't know how to cut the "cutting" barbs.http://i47.tinypic.com/33df6ld.jpg Attached Images
Reply:I've done a few with mixed results for divers who want to spear fish.I cut a slot with the portable band saw and then heated the barb with a small torch and bent it out with a chissel. Usually to get the cut started I need to take a grinder or slitting wheel and make a small notch or flat so the saw blade won't slip. I've done one or 2 tiny ones with the slitting wheel on a dremel, but they are an even bigger PITA to do.Often, especially on smaller, single spears, I'll just give them the option of using standard replaceable tips instead. I forget the usuall thread size for them right now, but the place that sells them usually has that listed since some come in standard and some in metric threads. Then I just weld a small SS bolt or the apropriate size to the end of the SS shaft and I'm done.Actually my most popular one was just a plain chunk of pointed SS 24" long with a handle for gigging flounder. They just pin them to the sand, no barb needed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
