Reply:I do not have a weight book, what is the wgt. per.sq ft. of 1/4 inch plate? I remember that 1/2 inch Square is .85 per ft. so I multiplied it by 12 ,came up with 10.20 ,is that correct wgt. of 1/4 in. plate per sq ft? $146.00 is a fair price it seems. less than 45 cents per. pound. 1/2 is probably twice as much.Just trying tokeep my 72 yr. old brain working.

Reply:Here are weights for mild steel plate per square foot (1foot x 1 foot)1/4" plate = 10.3 lbs./sq. ft.5/16" plate = 12.8 lbs./sq.ft.3/8" plate = 15.4 lbs./sq.ft.1/2" plate = 20.5 lbs./sq.ft.5/8" plate = 25.6 lbs./sq.ft3/4" plate = 30.7 lbs./sq.ftA 4x8 sheet (32sq.ft.) of 1/4" plate steel will weigh 329.6 lbs (32sq.ft. x 10.3lbs/sq.ft.). Multiply the weight by the cost per lb. of steel in your area. If your steel yard is currently selling steel at $.50/lb then it would be worth = $164.80.The previous post quoting $76.00 sounds good. However, the gas costs to drive to Alaska (posters location) will offset any savings.
Reply:The source for my weights/sq.ft. of steel plate in the post above came from Metalworldsinc.com.Another helpful source, metrosteelfl.com, shows slightly lower weights/sq.ft. for steel plate (10.21lbs/sq.ft for 1/4" plate). Both are good sites to determine lb./ft. of various shapes of steel (and other metals).

Reply:On Friday I bought a 5X4 foot 3/8 inch plate for $0.53/lb.The price per pound was the same for 1/4 or 3/8 inch. That was in Boise, Idaho at a major (Pacific Steel) supplier.Bob
