hey there, looking for anyones ideas on what i should build my snowplow/blade out of. i thought of maybe a oil barrel but i think that might be too thin to weld on and it might buckle if i hit a high rise in a side walk. how thick is a hot water tank? would that maybe work??? well any ideas on the blade part would really be help to me. thanks. if you have built your own blade please post a picture of it. pictures always help. thanks
Reply:What type of vehicle are you going to use it on? Lots of thing to consider, need to know the vehicle to head you in the right direction...The general answer without knowing the above would be:Build the frame out of steel and then use a poly sheet over the frame as the "moldboard". Weight being a key factor, and the snow will "roll" right off the face of the poly blade without sticking. I weld just to keep my snow plows ready for next Winter!
Reply:this is going to be mounted onto the front of my cub cadet lawn tractor. hope that helps
Reply:Use 3/16"x 1"x1" angle for the frame of the blade. Heat and bend the angle around a 55 gallon drum to get the right curve of the blade and make it braced pretty good without going overboard. Use 1/4"x 1"x1" tube steel for the mount to the tractor. Use 1/4" poly sheeting to go over the frame of the blade. Use two small electric power in/out cylinders for the power angle and one small electric power out/gravity in cylinder to lower and raise the plow. Mount the two switches for the cylinders on the handlebars. Find a used cutting edge from a real plow and bolt it to the bottom of the blade you just fabricated and you will be all set.The other option is buy a plow off Ebay and just modify the mounts to fit your tractor. Then add the power angle cylinders and you will have alot less fabrication to do.Hope this helps...I weld just to keep my snow plows ready for next Winter! |
