hey this is a boat lift i have been working on for a  couple days. it has 2 black air tanks that go under it . any comments or suggestions. thanksben Attached Images
Reply:these boat lifts cost around 5 thousand dollars installed from most manufacturers so i figured i could build them and easily beat everyones price. since my parents own a boat dock i have learned quite a bit about them. but i think i will sell them for around 3 thousand to people at our dock. ive been welding for about 2 years now . Im 17 and would like to start a small buisness building these.
Reply:second pic..the burn thru from behind..turn it down a couple of "notches".....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:What a great place to live and work. If you can undercut the other products out there and you're already tapped into the market (via your parents), you're on your way. Good luck!I don't know anything about boat lifts. I imagine you'd have to get them certified or something? You'll need some sort of indemnity in case one of them fails and a boat (or person) gets damaged.
Reply:Pictures are a little fuzzy and a little far away from the welds to be able to offer much advice.I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:in pic 2, whats the chippin hammer for? (and dont say chipping)have any pics/drawings of what the final product looks like being used? im not familiar with the industrygood looking welds to, thanks for the pics

Reply:i had the chipping hammer out the previous night because i tacked it all together late at night with a stick welder so i didnt have to get the 210 out and back in alone. its hard to pull up that ramp weighing about 300 pounds. I know that i am not good with an o/a torch. that is the reason the washers are there to beef it up a little and cut down some of the play on the bolts. thanks for all your feedback. ill put up some more pics of the welds and finished product.
Reply:A 210 weighs 300lbs.?  The 251's at work are only about 245.  I know the lincon 255's are closer to 300lbs. with wire.  Heavier means better built, right?DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:well the 210 weighs 200 pounds alone plust 44 pounds of wire and the argon tank isnt light either. i was wondering if it is possible to get good enough with a plasma to burn a lot better hole in the mounting brackets instead of using o/a. then i might not need the washers
Reply:I believe that the "roundness " of the hole depends MOSTLY on your skill & steadiness of your hands, oxy-acet OR plasma . to get perfect holes , i think you need an automated burning (cutting)  machine .P S : when i say   "you" , that includes  me and everybody else . Not many can burn "perfect circles , without some machinery  to help them .Last edited by Roy Hodges; 08-03-2006 at 03:00 PM.[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:^^^^^^^ true but it wont happen..you really should cut them out about 1/2 smaller than needed then they get finish bored..you do need the right size hole for the bushings to perform the way they should......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:i only planned on doing this first lift like this because school starts back up in 1 week and we have a pirahna ironworker. i will prolly punch enough for many lifts to come.
Reply:Just a couple of quick comments.1) "Not many can burn "perfect circles , without some machinery to help them"  I would drill a pilot hole ( that way their is no blow back )then I would tac a piece of tubing the size I need ( plus about 1/8 due to the size of the A/O tip) and use that as my guide.2) As for punching them, that would depend on the size of the hole and thickness of the plate.  You could run into problems with that.3) Zap..you scared me.  I was really worried I had to get my eyes checked again.  LOL.......
