I got a Miller Pro Hobby hood a couple of years back and overall I've been pretty pleased.  As I get to the point where much if not most of my welding is out of position, the hood doesn't stay on easily, even at the largest setting and with the hood up except with my head straight up it falls off.  At the bench or looking down, it's great.  I'd like to keep the cost at about $150 or so or even look at replacing the headband with a Jackson or some other sort of face shield headband.  I'm trying to make it to Airgas and try a few others out but probably won't get to it before next week.  My hat size is 7 3/4.
Reply:7  5/8 here. Have you tried lengthening the strap over the top of your head? That's what's worked well for me all my welding life.                                  MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:I have a similar issue. I've got a big head, 7 5/8th if I remember correctly, and I like wearing a 3m 6000 series mask when I weld at school because the school's vent system sucks. I borrowed a friend's HF Helmet and a Pro Hobby and neither fit on my head properly (even with the middle band expanded) and fit my mask at the same time. I am currently in the market for my own helmet, I was looking at a Jackson NexGen HSL100 and was wondering if I would have a fitment issue with my pancake filters, 6000 series and a gigantic head.I'm talking like Conan O'Brien sized head by the way.
Reply:We have 3 sizes.WeeNot so weeand FREAKIN' HUGE!

Reply:Thanks guys.  The top strap is adjusted all the way and fits with upright movement.  It's just getting under the car, etc (anything but standing) and if I'm not careful it can fall off.  I've got a lot of hair still too and with the beenie and the hair it might be closer to an 8.  I've got an idea for a chin strap that could be removable.  Looks like I can make it to the LWS tomorrow and check out the Jackson hoods.  I like the Miller, got a great deal on it but if if I can't keep it on my mellon it's not going to do me much good.
Reply:I have a 7-3/4 or 7-7/8 head I think.  I can't remember.  Any how, I have found that Jackson head gear is the largest of the ones that I have tried.  I also have a FibreMetal hood with a flex hood gear (there are two styles) that works for me too.  I had to try a couple head gears that would fit so I could weld and not have my hood fall off when I wasn't in a standing position.
Reply:Can anyone attest to the head gear in the Speedglas 9100 series? I saw a video touting the acclaims of the 9100 series and it looks like it might be a winner for me, but I prefer hearing from the people rather than a mouthpiece from the company.
Reply:Ive got a size 8 head, and I use a Jackson EQC NexGen and it fits fine. All of my welders caps I picked up at Airgas. The are Comeaux, I believe pipeliner series and camo. They are all size 8 and I just take them and soak them in water then put them on and they strech a bit. Hope this helpsGo Cards!!!!!
Reply:Thanks.  The LWS only had one lower cost Jackson in stock and no Speedglas.  I did get the Hypertherm shade 5 face shield and it fits great.  They have some Huntsman non variable that fit but I want an auto darkening, variable shade hood.  The Pro Hobby didn't have a grinding mode and that's the only thing I would change this time around.
