Reply:My stepbrother is into rr cars.  He belongs to some group that goes to old abandon spurs and railroads.  I thought this was just a local thing.  I guess its not.  Looks great.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:Your friend should get in an organized speeder club.  They have event's where they get run on the regular raillines.  The RR supplies a follow me Highrailer and and  a follow Highrailer.  Trains and locomotives had an episode about one of these runs. Reply:I work on the UPRR in Arizona. You couldn't get me on an abandoned spur in one of those homemade jobbies. I have seen surprise trains come down abandoned spurs. I thought it was stupid in safety class to hear about guys getting hit on the track. How do you get surprised by freaking 70ton locomotive? Ha! I did. I almost crapped my pants too. Reply:+1 on Joker11's post.  I did the same stuff on UP and Caltrain.  70 tons at 75 mph on welded rail can sneak up you ... and you always come in second place!!My angle grinder is my best friend!
Reply:I'm wiht Joker and penta stay off the tracks.    I once had close call with a trian along the pacific coast.    Just crossing the tracks to get to the beach.   Never heard a thing over the noise of the ocean until the thing was like 200 feet away.     That is way to close to first notice a passanger train flying by.    The only good thing about that was that being near the ocean changing the pants was already in the cards.On the other hand if the railroad is content to give ou controlled access then I can see the fun in the event.    For a welder rairoads can be interesting places.Dave
Reply:Well not commenting on planned deals, I agree with how dangerous playing on the rail roads can be.  We were once out quading and dirt biking.   Dad and his buddy took the quad and 2 wheeler so  brother sister and I went off on our own.  THere was a rail bridge.  I was told its called a trussel, maybe not this one, but some are atleast. Anyway, were putting crab apples on it, put a penny on it.   Someone said if you put a penny on a railroad it will flip the train over.  We thought it would be kinda cool.  I was 6 maybe.  Well out of no where, around the bend comes the locomotive.   THe girls playing with us dint get their heads out of their bums in time and were hanging from the ties, I had grabbed my brother and my ssiter she ran like heck.  We were up against this fence, and it felt too close.  Well it was soo loud and so freightneing.   After it was over we ran back to dad.  We told him about the penny.  He took us back to get it.   Its at the house somewhere.  Really cool what it does to penny IF it Catches...Let it Burn
