Welds this A.M.

Well i got some more time in with the hobart..still playing with the gas mixer but the aluminum is coming along...Attachment 4633and heres some 304 stainless i was fooling around with...fusing 2 pcs together in a "t"the object to the left is a dime...how small can you go? Reply:nice weld especialy the first alu, alu is hard.!!how do you obtain those clean weld on stainless. When i do it the stainless begin to oxide a bit over the top. But When i brush it's ok underneat.thx

Reply:ahah thanks your tha manI use to weld with arc machine, it's pretty much put your rod on the plate and weld :P
Reply:here are a couple pics of some butt welded 1/16" aluminum using pure argon,  , 2nd pic is penetration side. I have found if  welding thicker pieces you can just use a 75Ar/25He mix from your local welding supply and it works quite well. Never found a need for any fancy mixerhowever I usually just use pure argon and just crank up the amperage on the syncrowave 500 I have access to when doing thicker stuff Attached ImagesLast edited by elderthewelder; 08-19-2006 at 06:31 PM.
Reply:Nice welds Zap!!...and Elder!! Here is some aluminum I did today. It's a bumper for a Yamaha Raptor 660. The material is 1"x .120" aluminum tubing and .125" plate.I used STRAIGHT ARGON (Zap!!...still haven't bought myself a mixer ), 4043 rod, and 2% Tungsten.I will be putting more pics of this in the "Projects" section...
