I am building this bumper for the Jeep I am building the kid, and I have a question about which material to use for the hoop over the winch:The local steel yard sells 1.75" .120 DOM for $6+/foot, or I can get the same dimensions in HREW (or CREW) for $2.50/foot.Is the HREW strong enough to support the weight of the jeep in a rollover (low speed while off-roading most likely, but always possible at highway speed)? The hoop (usually called a stinger) will be taller than shown here, and angled forwards a bit. There will also be another hoop in front of the grill and the two hoops will be tied together with another piece of tubing. Thanks for the help,MikeLast edited by Wannabe; 09-11-2006 at 01:32 PM.Building a Jeep from the ground up as a graduation present for my kid. Reply:HREW/CREW will be fine. a few of the more known manufacturer's stingers are made with 1.5 x .120 HREW. |
