I got a call from retread company that does the huge tires for loaders and dumptrucks, you know the 8-10 foot tires. Well this is the shaft for the tire grinder that spun a bearing and ground a groove about 3/16 deep where the bearing rides. Here are a couple pics. Enjoy
Reply:Wow! that looks awesome, I assume it will all get machined down? So what welding process did you use on that? Give us the specifics
Reply:Yes it gets turned down. I used my Esab Heliarc 352 TIG welder. With 3/32 tungsten and 1/16 filler wire
Reply:Awesome job,How long did it take you? and did you weld it vert. or horiz.?
Reply:cool.. i love stuff like that..i wanna know how far out of zero (runout) it was afterwards...and i know it was out..i do the same thing on a regular basis......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:don't know. I welded it and ran it back. They turned it back to size. Must have been very little as the said it was an awesome job.

Reply:Nice work clean and professional!
Reply:wow, how long did that take you?did you weld it vertical? or did you lay it down and weld on it while horizontal?
