I have a piece of 1" plate that is 44"W and 8' 2" long. It has a piece of 2" flat bar welded 3" from edge that served as a flange. (flat bar standing up). What I want to do is to built a frame that will fit inside the flat bar flange for plate to set on as a table top. The figure I came up with for weight for the plate was 1250 lbs. I am thinking about using 3x4x3/16 tubing for frame and legs. Is that overkill - not enough or  ??
Reply:the welding table i made is 1" thick steel also..roughly 24" X 16"...and all there is for legs is 1/8 angle iron..i'd say the tubing will be more than enough.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Here is mine. 1" thick, 5' x 10'.  4inch box tube for legs and 6 inch channel for frame...............
Reply:One of the things I did when I built my table is to bolt the top plate on the leg frame with 1/4" rubber pads in between. I tapped the pllate (3/4") and bolted from the bottom, this eliminated any warping from welding on the legs and it really deadens the sound if you are hammering on it.JimCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd.
