I was at a friends house today and noticed they had these really cool metal counter tops. I did a little investigating and noticed it looked to be built on site and welded together. They were very cool looking with a slight modern/grunge look. I also noticed it had a clear coat to protect the metal from rust and stains. My question is does anyone know what they possibly used to put the clear coat on? Would it be an auto body clear coat?
Reply:Kitchen, shop, where?
Reply:might be urethane, worked for a metal artist, we would urethane everything with a paint sprayer. A little stronger and more tenacious than automotive paint since we couldn't prime the metal before welding.
Reply:The ones i saw were for a kitchen. this would be for a similar application.
Reply:Its been posted on this forum a couple years ago that regular automotive clear coat will turn the metal a yellowish color. It probably was a urethane. Sounds like a cool idea. Any way to post some pictures?UA Local 598

Reply:How thick was the coating? It is probably epoxy resin. That is what most restaurant and bar surfaces are covered with. Here is a link to the stuff. Epoxy Resin
Reply:I have used por 15 glisten pc before and it works pretty good. It does get very hard and is very clear and shiny. They sell a type of acid etch solution for use with it that is recommended first. US Composites has some epoxy table top resin also that you pour on. Haven't used that specifically but I do use there other epoxy resins for fiberglass and carbon fiber and they are pretty good.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week
