Race Car Part..Cracked...

Heres the front engine plate from louies "Krazy Hoss"...after many 8 second passes and a kaboomed 427.. the front plate finally started to crack..(4 speed cars are murder on parts..)So heres what we do...Drill out the end of the crack..3/16"..then grind out the crack 1/3 thru on both sides..Now we weld both sides starting at the hole..And when you complete both sides.. stand it on end and do the end also...and there we go...lets see how long it takes to break that.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Nice job Zap.You "door car" guys are lucky. I have yet to work on a S/C car that doesn't need a mid-plate repair.4-link, ridgid, slip joint....they all crack the mid-plates.So does this mean that you guys are running the car again?- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:Is it just me, or is there a crack running perpendicular to that one? It may just be the pic. I would never doubt you Zap, just a observation. Also, in my mustang, I'm running a front engine plate also. I didn't put in a midplate. So all that holds the moter in is that 1/4" aluminum plate in the front and the tranny mount. Will this hold up to around 450 HP in a stiff little car? I haven't got to run the car yet, and since we just got our first snow here this morning ( about 4-12" in places) I don't think it will be any time soon it will be outdoors. Cordova Dragway is where I race, and every year they have "HangoverFest" on New Years day, so I might shoot for that. Anyway, good repair Zap. HenryA bad welder makes a good grinderA grinder and paint makes a welder that ain't!If you can't put a good weld on it, put alot of weld on it!

Reply:Haha yeah but to replace OE half shafts pulled from junkyards is cheaper than $1300 per pair upgrade axles!!!!Just a pic of my hobby Fully custom of course - holset turbos never saw these cars in the rest of reality

Reply:I got another E-mail from a guy off a mustang forum I posted on about my swap wanting info on doing one............and so my corruption continues of changing the world one mustang at a time.
