New shop in use:  Pic from 2 weeks ago, roof is fully covered now: Pic from opposite side: Some pics of a 2500HD I just finished up, includes a 408c.i. motor with a 90mm billet throttle body and a big T-80 dual ball bearing turbo. It has a bunch of other goodies...enjoy:John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Nice!  Good size and height for some serious working and storage options.  What are the dimensions & do you have a projected final cost?  It looks like you will need some heating where you are too.  I dream of the day when I can get out of the city and build myself a real shop like that. The truck looks good too.  Was this a complete Turbo kit you installed and will it include an intercooler?  How much boost are you planning to run?Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:Thanks Rick! The building is 32x40, I wanted to go larger but the zoning only allows 60 feet from the road. Also, if I went wider, it would have to be built into my house. I have a variance for the back side for another building - 40x40...if I need more space.  So far, I think I have between 12 and 13k into it. I'm waiting to pour the concrete in spring, it will save me $300 - 400. We put down 40 ton of runner-crush in the building and driveway, then tamped everything - it gives a nice solid surface and preps nice for concrete. The truck - thanks. It was built for a customer out of NH. It came with a stock 6.0l motor, we took the old motor out and started with a fresh 408 short block. Everything you see in that engine compartment was built or custom made for this truck. Yes, the Intercooler is a BIG core - enough for 1,000hp +. Right now, the waste gate is set at 7 psi. The customer wants to drive it daily and we built it for that purpose. Realistically, he can run as much boost as he wants, the motor, fuel system and other parts were chosen for it.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:good stuff!!!but why the battery charger? ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hahaha, well he had an Optima but as all car guys know, once they sit (especially the yellow ones) they die and there is no recovery. So, we used a spare battery out of another car (600 cca) and the battery just could not keep up with all the electronics and huge fuel pump (aeromotive eliminator - 1200hp +) ...so it draws a good bit of power. Hence, we had to keep charging. It now has a 1,000 amp or 875 CCA battery in it and life is good. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Thanks Paul - that was one consideration when buying my house. I wanted "room to grow" and my parents live in a rural setting with a little room (50x100 yard) but not big Texan style elbow room (2-10+ acres). I've been building motorcycles, cars and other stuff  for years and knew it would come time for more space. We used to rent a 30x40 building in the city and it only made sense to arrive at building my own. WAY cheaper in the long run. I, too, hope you guys get the chance. The equity on it is nice as well. Thanks again for the compliment!Last edited by MicroZone; 12-21-2006 at 08:55 PM.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Paul - no doubt you are paying a HUGE lease fee. That's exactly why I got away from doing that, it was like throwing money away. I'll be your monthly rent out there could pay 3 or 4 of my mortgage payments. UGH! Thanks again for compliments on the truck! We built or fabricated everything ourselves...well me and my 2 part time helpers, so mostly little 'ol me.  I wish I could run out there with it, I have a few other friends who live out that way who would like to see it as well. Thanks!!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:hahahaaa...no dice on the truck, that has to go back to the customer so I can get paid. Yepper, right off the lake, so we get lake effect all the time - snow belt area. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
