Reply:Wow.  Is that one of a kind?  Very impressive weldament.
Reply:right now it is but the guy want to buy another for his friend it only cost $6000.00 for one cheep for this guy..........Strive For Perfection
Reply:Am I nuts, or did you tack weld the SS skidplate to the Ti assembly?? If so, what kind of filler could do that job? Really nice welding, swingarm is awesome!! What does it weigh vs a stock unit???
Reply:Now that is beyond cool!
Reply:Looks great, is that stuff really that expensive?  Looks like you have several hours invested.  Nice.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:What is a z400?  When I saw this, I thought DR-Z 400 but this is no dirtbike swingarm.  A 400cc (unless 2-stroke) streetbike seems like it wouldn't be worth a $6000 swing arm.

Reply:someone has more $$$ than brains...i had no idea you could weld ti to stainless.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:the tacks that you see are all on to the stainless skid plate it bolts on the swing arm....it hard to tell from the pic...the tubing i used is about $90.00 a foot and there is some x braces in side that box in part too...This swing arm is for a quad...just one length of filler rod is $8.00Strive For Perfection
Reply:Did you weld it in a argon enviroment?
Reply:no..we use to in the past. we haven't had any problems yet not welding it in a chamber and we made 100's of a-arm and swing arms over the year....and most the quad we make them for are drag bikes that have any where from 80-200+ horse powerLast edited by BuiltByBrooks; 12-20-2006 at 08:34 PM.Strive For Perfection

Reply:Oh, it's an ATV...  I hate ATV's.  The trouble with ATV's is that they're slow, yet wide so they're also hard to pass on the trails.  The riders also like to give them some throttle at exit of every turn and throw up a huge cloud of dust.  Then, the ATV'ers crash and get hurt badly because the ATV runs over them.  Now they have to get airlifted out and they always do the airlifts off of my favorite track so I can't ride on it for an hour.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 12-21-2006 at 02:14 AM.

Reply:Nice lookin welds there brooks. What grade Ti you use to make them with? I weld Ti every day,But nothing fun like that just pressure vessels.
Reply:Awesome Ti fabrication. Was this welded in a glove box?Related comment: There is a place in Washington state that does "explosion welding" of titanium to aluminum, aluminum to 304 stainless, and other unusual combinations. I have used their aluminum to stainless products.
Reply:Will you get it painted and detailed before shipping? If so, take pictures It looks awesome eh
Reply:I think I jinxed myself with my comment.  I went dirtbiking yesterday and an ATVer crashed out on the trail.  He had to get airlifted off of my favorite track and I wasn't able to ride on it all day.
Reply:Motorcycles crash too, not sure why you say ATV's crash more? It depends on rider skill, familiarity with the track and track conditions.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:ATV's crash more because the extra wheels give riders a false sense of security.  The riders get hurt more because the ATV's run them over after they crash.
Reply:BROOKS ,the swing arm is one of the coolist things i've every seen ChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder

Reply:Ever watch the GNCC ATV races on TV?  Ever notice how effortlessly the camera men on dirt bikes keep up with the racers?I guess I'll contribute so I don't entirely hijack this thread.  From what I hear, welding titanium is just like stainless steel except you use titanium as a filler.  The most important thing is the cleanliness (this should be important for every weld regardless of material) and the shielding gas.  It used to be titanium was welded in a glove box with an inert gas athmosphere.  It can be welded outside if you make sure you have excellent shielding gas coverage.
Reply:ZTFab, Its like welding aluminium and stainless steel. It melts really fast and the puddle looks like aluminium........Strive For PerfectionWelding ti is like welding stainless and aluminum.  You really need the gas coverage like stainless, but it puddles like aluminum, and disperses heat very quickly like aluminum.  Another weird thing about it is it takes about half of the amps to melt ti, but it is very, very strong.  You will notice that it is very "sticky" so if you don't get your filler rod out of the puddle as you are moving along, the filler rod will get stuck.  It also melts so hot that the sparks given off by ti are white. Very nice material.
Reply:What grade(s) of Ti are you using? What grade(s) of filler are you using?I wanna try some.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
