Hi I am taking a 6-G on 2" sch 80 pipe and was woundering what rod sizes I should use for my root and cover. I know it's 6010 & 7018. But what size? Thank You
Reply:Root is most likely 1/8" 6010. 3/32 can be a little easier to run, but not everyone will let you use it. You can adjust your root opening and root face to work with either size electrode.Likewise you can fill and cap with 1/8" or 3/32" E7018. 3/32" will be slower, but probably easier to run. If they'll allow you to use 3/32" that's what I'd choose.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Thank You this will be veary helpfull
Reply:Maybe im crazy, but my line of thought is that if your taking a test you should either A) be told what size rod to use by the parameters of the code or B) be comfortable enough with the test to know what size rod you prefer to run if it is your choice. What works well for one person wont necessarily work for you. Ask pipeline welders how they like to run their roots. I bet for every 50 welders you get 51 answers.Have we all gone mad? |
