I built a pedestal in my shop, and I find it very handy.  I welded two nuts together and mounted them in holes in the floor.  I can remove the bolts and not have anything sticking up.  So far the pedestal hasn't been in the way, so I haven't used that feature. Attached Images

Reply:I didn't get finished.  I had to change computers to sign on again.  Here are a few more pictures.  I have all my benders and other tools set up to work on it.  The last picture shows a rack I put up on the wall to hold all the different tools.John Attached Images

Reply:now you need to make one for each tool you´ve put in there...seems tires to bolt unbolt them everytime you´re needing them!Nice job anywayMy Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
Reply:I'm all for ingenuity and making things but you could have just used some Lag Shields in the floor.Like this...I use these for my manual tubing bender the same way that you used yours and I've never had a problem with them. 8 years and counting.Good job on the pedestal. I like it's adaptability and universal base plate.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:Ah!  I've not tried to pull up.  I've only twisted on it.   I welded the two nuts together at each corner to give lots of threads.  I wallowed the holes in the concrete a bit to make a cone for the quickcrete to work against.  I don't know if I could pull the concrete floor out at the holes or not.My only experience with that kind of pull was to straighten a Jeep frame.  I was lucky enough to have an abandoned railroad trestle nearby.  We chained the center and jacked up the ends.  It worked great!
Reply:JwormanVery neat, good idea for occasional use tools etcI made one -- a bit scruffier than yours but works OKI used 4 of these Drop in anchors to bolt to the floorI need to move the pedestal after use to fit my car into garagehttp://www.confast.com/products/drop-in-anchor.aspxLast edited by cogla; 12-26-2006 at 08:47 AM.
Reply:I have a pedistal that is similar but not mounted to the floor, just a heavy stand. The odd thing about mine is I have several tools that require pedistals so I want to make them all use the same pedistal. What I did was mount a 3"X5" piece of 1/2" steel plate to the bottom of each. On the pedistal I mounted a piece of steel with a 3"X5" hole cut in it so that the plate on the tool fits right inside the opening in the pedistal. Now comes that part that makes it cool, I mounted under the plate on the pedistal one of those electromagnets used as door locks. Has 1500 pounds of pull. I just put the tool on and turn on the magnet. You can pick up the tool and take the entire stand with it. Turn off the magnet and trade out the tools. The tools I currently use on the pedistal are:9" beveled disc grinder3" vise8" bench grinder with buffing wheels on it.2'X3'x1/2" aluminum welding table (and overhead projector stand).Etching setup for etching damascus steel4"x36" belt/disc sanderLarge fanLarge lightIt is very handy. Sorry, no pictures (no camera).
Reply:Bob, that sounds like a neat idea.  My first thought (after the "thats cool" thought) was whether or not metal filings and such stick to your tools/work?MM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time
