Can this be welded? Picture included!

Hello all!I am not a professional and have very little welding experience and really just looking for some advice. I have a ride on bobcat mower with a Kohler Magnum 20 engine. During the winter, it was difficult to start when moving it in and out of the garage in cold (below freezing) weather. Anyway, some as-hole tapped the starter too hard with a mallet and cracked the part that attaches to the block. I don't know if this could be welded because I think it's aluminum (it is NOT magnetic). Would JB weld work? Should I take it somewhere? I have a full size welder, oxy- acetylene torch(braising?) and a mig welder. Anyway, just wanted to get some input here about what others think I should do and options I have. Thank you. Reply:Can I J-B weld this aluminum block?Pundits here will tell you so....reality is no.Aluminum block can be welded, after partial disassembly. Welded with TIG, after proper fixturing and alignment (which manyhave no clue as to how to do, check, inspect and correct asthe weld pulling changes things).Suggest you let a repair shop that is judged to be competentin aligning and welding do this--if you wish it to work.Blackbird

Reply:Just looking at the picture, if the angles are right.Forget the original piece and then make an L shaped bracket to the other upper bolt with a lip over the upper edge to prevent twisting.While making sure the motor maintains its proper alignment.
