I didn't want to hijack Jonnie's thread on his plasma jig, but I had mentioned somewhere that I had made a prototype dedicated 45* plasma cutting jig. I had originally made out of wood and it was pretty clumsy, so I went ahead and made it out of metal. This jig works great for quick clean cuts with almost no cleanup. It makes open-ended 45's for making quick clean box frames. For maximum strength, I think notched-corner frames may be better.  The reason I like using the plasma is to minimize the noise factor in my yard where I work outdoors.  No cut-off saws and much quicker than bandsaws with the same results.I made it double-ended to provide for the left and right cuts.  Also, I made it magnetic to eliminate clamping, although they can be used if necessary for other metals. I  used a 6-pak of ceramic disk magnets I found at the Ace hardware for $2.79. It will do up to 2" stock and if stout enough to toss around without altering the angle.  All I do is slap in on at my mark, minus a 1/2" the set back for my gun.  I've found I get the cleanest cuts are by making the 90* first and then finish with the 45*. Reply:Very cool tool. I enjoy making my own tools, jigs and guides. Thanks for sharing the great idea'r. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Nice Job!...No worries on hijacking, I love seeing what people are using to make their jobs easier. I am going to post up some pics of mine in action per Zaps request."If you live in Sacramento you have seen my work."
Reply:Oh dude, that's cool! I may have to have one for every angle up to 90...crap! Another welding project.Ronnie LyonsMeridian, Idaho
Reply:You think something like that will work on square tubing also ? Because I was working on a bar stool racer frame and trying to cut angles without a chop saw was tough.Last edited by Steelwill; 01-27-2007 at 11:36 PM.Will   Supports Autism Awareness                            My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .
Reply:Thanks for the positive responses to the jig. It could be used for square stock, but it isn't very practical.  It would involve making three different cuts & repositionings of the jig which may lead to errors.  In that case, you're probably better off with a cut-off wheel or bandsaw.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
