Hi guys,I'm looking for someone to do some custom welding to convert a utility trailer that looks something like this:http://bigtextrailers.com/spec/70pi.htmlto something that looks like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/77x14-Landscape-...QQcmdZViewItemIf that link doesn't work go to ebay and search on "irrigation trailer" it's the first one on the list.Basically I need the steel mesh bins added down both sides of the trailer and pipe racks of some kind on the overhead. I talked to one welding shop here locally and they ballparked the customizing at $3500 plus the trailer ($1500). Does that seeem reasonable? I can get the trailer listed on ebay for less than $3k but I don't want to drive to Texas. Thanks,George
Reply:If you are getting that tandem axle for 1500 then thats a good deal. 3500 is too much to change it to what you want. Landscaping trailers that are similar are being sold here for 1800 (single axle). I would question anyone that will charge you more than 1000-1500 to do the modifications you need. I would venture to say that your local company "ballparked" that figure because they don't want to do it, or its going to be a pain in the a$$.Hope I helped.Bill
Reply:Look around.....I know at allot of the bigger trailer dealerships around here you can get a 16' landscape trailer for $800 to $900. Thats tandem axle, #7000 and built with angle and a channel tounge.Maybe go that route and then find someone to modify it for you.OR...find someone that builds trailers on the side...you know the ones that have 4 or 5 trailers parked outside their house for sale....take your plans into them and I bet you could beat that $3500 quote by at least $1000. ( I bet you could have them build it for you for less than this shop you mentioned wanted to modify one for you.)Im sure you know all this and are really looking for a fabricator to do what you want, right!!!
Reply:I could modify the trailer for you and am located about 1 1/2 hours from Cincinatti in Flemingsburg, KY. Feel free to contact me at (606) 845-1311.Thanks,Steve
