Im getting a new AD helmet. I have a Gold passive that I can see worlds better with than the plain lens.I want an AD for general use, and keep the passive for overhead or really tight places.Speedglas or Jackson NexGen are the two I have narrowed it to. A co-worker has the Digital Elite, Im not blown away by it.Ive used two different Speedglas lids, cant remember their models though.90% of what Ill be doing is pipe/stick welding. Can anybody comment on the NexGen as far as speed? Clarity? Reply:I use a Speedglas 9002, variable shade with the big window. Its 4 years old and its great. From what I hear from the guys that also use the Nexgen, they prefer the Speedglass because of the ventilation helps it not to fog up so bad in cold whether and it is a bit lighter than the Nexgen. A friend recently purchased the same hood I have and I can tell you it is much clearer than my 4 year old same model hood. I am also not impressed with the Miller Elites. I have not found the hood to make me want to spend 300 to replace the one I have except maybe the newer version. I am also a pipe welder and use mine to tig and stick.Good luck in your search.UA Local 598

Reply:well, wore a 9002X tonight for 4 hrs. Went back to Goldie.My eyes got really fatigued, not sure if it was the lens or the small helmet allowing arc light in from the perimeter.
