Welding a Truck Frame

Hey Yall!!I recentally bought a totaled S10 to fix up and joyride around the farm in...It hit a santa fe going about 55, and so the front of the frame is messed up six ways from sunday. Accually, everything in front of the water pump was destroyed. The sheet metal was so bad i had to burn it off in peices. So, needless to say, i need a new frame. Thing is, i dont know how to get one home. Ive got an old minivan, but im pretty sure it wont fit in there. So, my thoughts are, find a used frame somewheres, take a sazall, and cut it into about six peices, so it will fit. Then, get it home, and weld it back together.I know welding frames is frowned upon, but its just an old wreck of a farm truck. Its days on any road are over, and it probabally wont go over 30 miles an hour again. My thoughts are:Buy frame, cut into peicesStuff into minivanDrag homeGrind the edges clean, bevel with angle grinder, clamp in place, weld both sides, then grind down and weld steel brace over other weld. What kind of rod would be best for this?? How many amps, with AC buzzboz??Anything else i should know?? Thanks guys
Reply:Any possibility of friend, neighbor, with pickup and trailer. Might cost you a sixer or two but it would be a whole lot less work than choppin up a frame just to put it back together again. Rodl

Reply:I figure if your willing to haul a rusty old frame on the inside of your minivan, that perhaps your not too overly concerned about the outside either.  Maybe this picture will give you a little inspiration.    And no that isn't my minivan, its just one I saw at a gas station a couple years ago. Reply:Man, just rent a trailer or find somebody with a trailer to trade beer for (as somebody already mentioned).  WAY too much work to cut it up and weld it, and the metal you will use to reinforce your welds will probably cost as much as renting a trailer for a day.  I also agree with the comment above about a younger son.  He11 I'm 25 and I still go romp around my 3 acres in my truck and get it stuck in the stream!!  I guess I dont get over 30mph, but if it was a farm truck, and not my relatively nice diesel I probably would.  Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
