Where to buy scrap

I'm looking for a place to buy scrap metal in or around Maryland.  Maryland has some horrible laws against selling scrap to the public, which makes this difficult.  That's democracy in action!  I would like to avoid driving all the way to VA or PA if possible.  Thanks.
Reply:That sucks! I'm not in your neck of the woods, but in the early days I used to go to the local pipe fitter shop, commercial sprinkler guys, fabricators, and explain I was looking for scraps for jig making and/or practice or that I was an artist. They'd let me dumpster dive. Means less for them to haul away. Wear your steel toe boots and be holding your gloves in your hand, with safety glasses on. Shows them you're not an idiot. Keep a six pack of decent beer, cold, in the car. If their bin is a treasure trove, give them the beer. Fridays are good to bring beer on. They'll remember you next time !!!  Don't interrupt them if they look busy and be personable and strait forward. And don't bring friends with you. Easier to deal with you when your on your own.As an artist, people got kinda into helping me out as I explained to them what I was working on. The local place I buy my metal from has been just outstanding!!! I pay when I pick up and bring beer once and a while, maybe Scotch at xmas. They cut the 20 footers in half for me no charge and let me take as much of the steel cut outs from there burning table as I like, so I throw them a few bucks to put in the pizza/beer fund. I've gotten thousands of pounds of sculpture base material from there burning table scarp pile. They know what I like and now put it aside for me and don't let anyone else go near it! . I consider the guys there friends now.  Good luck!! Reply:Here in las vegas at curtis steel they do fabrication. There are several drums of small fresh steel scrap  060 plate, angle iron, everything. .50 cents a pound i go down there every couple weeks

Reply:Why the hell do they give a crap about selling scrap to the public? Guaranty if you go to the local scrap yard, with beer and cash and a good attitude, you'll get stuff. Weird.
