We have a job in the shop that we are a little stumped on.  It's an awning with sheet metal covering that flows back to the building.  The question is how do you make the corner fit right and look okay from down below?  Pictures would be great. Reply:Hmm, I'd say use a trim strip of some sort at the corners and fit the corrugated sheets to the trim and not directly to one another.Cause otherwise the corrugations trying to join to one another across the corner just look really-really ugly and you have a jumble of peaks and valleys from the multiple sheets all coming together on one another.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Same idea as a "J" channel for vinyl siding on the soffitt, 2 "J's" back to back and the soffit fits into it....Mike
Reply:22.5 angle ...cover with ridge cap.If you shifted it just right I bet you can even get the peaks and valleys to line up.

Reply:With a ridge cap, I'll have to notch both sides to follow the metal.. How will it fit when the meet?  And do you just silicone it along the seams to hold it in place?  And what about the standing water issues?  Remember, this awning leans back towards the building and you'll easily see the bottom side.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Maybe I'm a little out of line however did you say the awning leans back towards the building? If so aren't they asking for problems with water that lands on this and flows back to the wall?? Otherwise I'm with the majority of reponses. Miter the piece at the seam on the 22.5deg  with a little judicious jockeying you should be able to get the parts to line up at the seam.Harold MulderMiller 211 AutosetHTP 201 Invertig with water coolerHardinge Cataract Quick Change Lathe
Reply:They make what I call a closer strip...foam type rubber that is shaped like the tin.It is used on the top wall plate to seal it.But since yours has a angle you will have to tear off the high parts and stick it down with double stick tape.Ridge cap is screwed down with lap screws(self tapping sheet metal screws)
Reply:So this is what we came up with for the corner.  It turned out to be a nice fit. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:So the install started off a little rough.  I got the 20,000lb man basket stuck in the parkinglot.  I had to pay a wrecker to get it out.. I had the genie returned and picked up some scaffolding.  This has added quite a bit of time to the job having to set the scaffolding up and down all around the building.   These are the things that kill your bids. Reply:Without going too far off topic... how does a pro do a bid, that lets the customer be $$ responsible for appropriate access / egress to the site (without contingency to hire a wrecker?).  Is this any different that the customer causing huge time delays because the gate is locked and you can't get on site for X days, or they didn't schedule the contractors to avoid congestion, etc?I don't think that's asking too much, do you?Oh... and nice work on that awning corner!--zip
Reply:Yeah... I would love to have them compensate me for the additional time that is involved, but I dont think I can do a thing about it.  It will probably cost us an additional 60 hours of install.  It's a pretty big blow since it was such a tight bid.  We are bidding on more jobs with this general and I think we'll add 'reasonable access' to the quote.  Congestion has been a bit of an issue as well.  I hope things go better on our next jobs with this contractor.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Nice awning. There's stuck and then there's effin' stuck, your's is the latter fer sure :angry, sucks when it's money outa your pocket ....Mike
