I have a pile of tubes that I had welded up the bores and now they need re-boring..Tubes..But the boring bar that I have is rather LARGE..So I fabbed up a nice small one for my "collection"..Here are the parts..Make sure you put the chipbreaker in first before you weld it..It can be tough to do if you don't..OK now shim it up so it's in the middle..Now weld it..BUT!!..you have to do it fast because you dont want the silver solder that holds the carbide to the bit to melt.. And we continue next post.....zap! Reply:Very nice - make your own tools. I like it !John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Nice work Zap,  Just an idea I came up with, but I made two of my boring bars, by taking a piece of shaft and drilling a 3/8" hole thru one end of it.  Then I took a piece of 3/8" square cold roll and grind a taper on one end of it.  Then I heat the boring bar material red hot around the hole, and drive the 3/8"cr thru the hole to form a square hole thru it to accept the tool bit. ( I filed one hole square but found this was easier and quicker)  Then I drill and tap for a set screw to hold the tool bit wen boring.  That way I can replace them when i need to.  Again Great work. . .~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
