I just got a 160 tank exchange from National Welders from my LWS...its been over a year since I had to buy gas -- I haven't had much going on in my shop this year.  I get home, hook it up, and it only reads 1000psi.  Seems I remember previous tanks starting out about 2000psi.  I HAD to go ahead and run with it to get a project out.  Is that a common problem, getting a short tank, or am I just remembering wrong???  Do you think my LWS will make it right, or since I ran with it for the day (now down to about 850 or so), or I am SOL and will just be buying another refill soon??  How is that typically handled??
Reply:Let them know as soon as possible.  IF you are a good customer, or they are a good store, they will make it right. My name's not Jim....
Reply:I'll get there on Monday, plan to run all day tomorrow, so it'll probably be down pretty good by Monday a.m.  This is the first time I've bought gas from this place, but it's a supply house were I buy bolts, etc, and know a couple of the counter and office folks by name.Long story short I realized I was out of gas on Friday night.  This is the only place that has National Welders nearby that is open on Saturday morning.  Last exchange I got, a year ago was from my normal LWS...they put the cyl in my truck for me (1 year ago).  When I got to the shop, I noticed it was about 2-3" shorter than the tank I took in, and not quite as big around.  I went back down there....counter guy convinced me it was still a 160 tank, just a "normal" variant in size.  Well, the place this a.m. would not exchange, says it is a 145, and isn't a customer-owned size that they can exchange outright.  SO, I was right a year ago about it not being the correct size, and now I am screwed...    Worse than getting screwed over is knowing I was in the right, but believed the BS and LIE spewed by the counter guy when I went back.  He's bound to have known it wasn't right (he looked at it, same guy that brought it out and loaded it originally).  I just wonder if he gave me a rental tank, and cashed my 160 out of the system, and pocketed a couple hundred bucks.   "Follow the money" is what my dad always said.I ended up this a.m. buying a new 160 tank ($280 out the door), and have to go the LWS on Monday a.m. to straighten out the error.  I'll probably sell out of that tank, maybe swap for straight argon.Grrrrr, I feel like Charlie Brown

Reply:I'm almost wondering if the counter guy this morning pulled the tanks out of the wrong stack...  Another guy getting a 160 while I was there....it had "Empty" clearly written in chalk on the side of it...not rubbed off from handling, etc...we joked about it outside.   I sort of know him, I may call him tomorrow and see if he had gas in the cylinder or not.   Hmmmmm.
Reply:ALL, I repeat ALL the gas companies will screw you. I had big problems with arcet. I switched to national and they still screw me just not as hard. Long story short...when I was with arcet they came in my shop (when my helper was there) and took 8 tanks from me. When asked they said Quote"there our tanks".   . Boy was I pissed! Not to mention they sent me the wrong gas most of the time.
