Deer Feeder and Lawn Mower Handle

Went over yesterday to my father in laws (by the way, my father in law is like a father to me.) and I welded a handle on a riding mower for him with my Lincoln Pro Mig 180 with Lincoln flux core which I am really liking. Also, I welded up a homemade Deer Feeder that he built last year and had a friend weld up because I had no welder then. He  pulled it from the woods where hunt about an 2 hours away where he keeps a garden in the gardening season and found that a bear had literally "grub-chucked" it. It was really tore up and broke up. So I went yesterday and welded it up. Fixed it completely. My father and law was shocked at how good my welds were. His friend that welded it last year is retired and welded in the Coal Mines for years. Anyway, my father in law tested it trying to break it loose or bend it and could not. He was very excited and commented on how great my welds were and strong. My biggest pas was a 6 inch pipe that had to be welded in the bottom of the feeder drum that had been broke out so there were some gaps. I welded it very good and covered all gaps, cracks and openings. My welds penetrated  all the way through because we turned it upside down and looked inside. He was pleasantly shocked. He commented on how my welds were a little flat on the surface and penetrated through well. Others he has seen seemed to hump up on the surface and not penetrate as well. This includes all the welds I have been doing at the fencing company for him. I do not know exactly what I do to make them appear this way, I just simply do what I was trained to do 19 years ago and thats all I know.Whitey

Reply:littlefuzz,becajuse the one that was there broke off and my father in law "made" one to fit back as he bent a piece of tube to put there and had a drilled hole and screw holding it theree, so I welded it tame make it more secure.
