It's time to do my duty and post my cart pix. This will be a little different, since its for a stick welder. After getting the cart together, I have learned I still need to practice and practice again. Many of my welds are terrible. But they may hold. I had to make something to put the welder on when I got it:Getting the frame ready to weld:Starting to put the back on the frame:(to be continued)John-----------------------------------|Craftsman 230/140 amp AC/DC BuzzboxSynchrowave 250

Reply:Now I'm on the home stretch.Seeing what it looks like with the wheels:Then I put the welder on it to see if it would fit. (It did-barely):Now the cord hangers were mounted and I began to paint it:Hopefully it will be finished by next weekend.John-----------------------------------|Craftsman 230/140 amp AC/DC BuzzboxSynchrowave 250
Reply:Looks great man. If you don't mind the question, how are the bolts mounted for the wheels? Is that the same material just turned around and the bolt welded to it?Come try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Rustywrangler:I used 1" angle for my frame and back. The axle mount was 1-1/2" to give clearance to weld around the bolt head. The axle bolts are 1/2". I cut the leg attached to the frame to 1" and added 2 holes that I welded through. (Don't know if I really needed that extra strength or not.) Reply:I saw the wood cart and got a little worried. The metal one looks good, basic, simple, pretty strong, and should serve it's purpose well. I also saw a barcode on a peice of metal, I hope you're not buying metal at the hardware store, you can save a fortune buy getting it at a metal suplier.

Reply:FWIW you dont need to run the bolt threw first . kist gt a good beed on it against the frame and it will be fine. it will also hold the wheel out off the frame 1/2" due to the head. they work great if you get the right size the threds will finish off just befor it tighten on the wheel bearing so you can snug it down realy good againns the end of the threds without squeezing the bearings. if it dosent work out like that just put a carter key in to keep the nut from backing off.the cart looks great. should serve ya well for many years. have you conciderd options for holding welding rod's ???when i made my TIG cart i didnt put in stick holding options as well as TIG filler holders. so its still without. so be shore to show us your , i may need to steel the idea. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:David R:Thanks for your comments. I'll need a LOT of practice to get close to the work I see on here everyday. I was using 3/32 6011 to tack it up and 7018 (both DCEP) for "final" welds. . . Learning by Doing.Doolittle:My "workbench" top for my Workmate is a piece of 24x30 particle board with a cleat underneath to clamp to. My "welding" top is 24x24 plywood with a piece of 16 ga. steel bolted to it. I'll be looking for a piece of 5/16 or 3/8 steel to make a proper welding table in the future.Maxyedor:The metal did come from my local Lowe's. I'll be looking for other (cheaper) suppliers for future projects. As far as the wood cart, I had to have some way to move the welder around after I got it a couple of months ago. I've been working with wood for nearly 40 years, so coming up with that cart was quick. I'm a newbie with steel so the more I do with metal, the easier the planning & fab will be.elvergon:Thanks. No, the machine did not come with wheels. I tried to order a set when I ordered a copy of the manual, but fortunately they don't stock the wheels anymore. Since then, I've seen wheel sets on other Century welders and battery chargers. Some of the axles and wheel sets seem really light weight.John-----------------------------------|Craftsman 230/140 amp AC/DC BuzzboxSynchrowave 250
Reply:fun4now:Thanks for the suggestion. The wheels are lawn mower wheels with metal hubs and bearings. I'm putting a washer between the wheel and the side for clearance, then using a Nylock nut on the outside of the wheel.John-----------------------------------|Craftsman 230/140 amp AC/DC BuzzboxSynchrowave 250

Reply:fun4now: Looks nice. Looks very stable. I like the way you mounted your lead holders at an angle on the side.elvergon:I don't know , but you should see the size of the cryo cooler it needs!! John-----------------------------------|Craftsman 230/140 amp AC/DC BuzzboxSynchrowave 250
Reply:thanks, i had been looking for some thing to use the lil bit of diomand plate aluminum on. the foot controle seemed like the best option i could come up with .now if i would just get off my but/wallet and build my cooler i could fill the gaping hole below it.eather that of cut it down shorter. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time. |
