Ok, so I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I aptly named this one!So this was our company's answer to a special snapon socket for our security bolts. Like I said, a great way to ruin a snapon socket.Last edited by MicroZone; 06-14-2007 at 10:45 AM.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like a regular socket welded to a "T".What was the point? Maybe I'm just not able to see it in the pic. "Every choice you make will effect at least one other person"
Reply:count the sides in the socket ................it is a five sided nut for security purposes. what are you guys buildingthat would require that?G3
Reply:Hmm, I guess the handle size would make sure that what it tightens doesn't get too tight.  But what if what's tight is stuck and it can't be over loosened?  I have to admit, the tack down inside that socket would be hard to TIG. Favorite right now is a Miller Syncro 200.Tons of tools and I blame at least one of them when things don't go right.
Reply:Looks like a  key for a roadbox cover for a residential water main  at the property line.
Reply:Sorry for not explaining....Yes it is just a socket welded to a T.We have these handholes and manholes that get buried and the lids are attached with these SS bolts with 5 sided heads. Most vandals don't have these sockets...so it's a little added security. We aren't building anything, just tightening the lid. Funny thing is that half the time when you open one up, the bolts are missing. A sure sign that the construction crew was in a hurry or lazy. The point was to have a handle for the socket, but I don't know who welded them up. Not the nicest job I have ever seen, but it has held together for several years.I was just sharing this because of the other thread labeled Improvised Socket.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I work for the electric comapny in texas and we use that tool for all the locking nuts on our transformers and our pedestals.  We call them a "roofo" (dont know how they spell it).Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American G. I. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
Reply:Jeesh...You did'nt weld that did you??...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I once saw a Snap-On socket that was $2000.  It was 2.5" drive.  At least he didn't ruin one of those.
Reply:NO SIR. I did not "weld" that. But talk to Pentawelder....he used to make these all the time.I don't know who made this one. It was handed to me when I took the job.  I would have done things differently. For sure.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:It's a pretty common security bolt set-up that's been around for ages and ages. I can see where this T handle affair would be a lot better than equipping every every truck in the fleet with a wratchet, extension and socket. You could make the T handle any size you wanted too. Heck weld on a 4 foot section of one inch pipe if you had too
Reply:Except that we all have a full set of ratchets and sockets, both standard and insulated electrical. I just wish a better job would have been done in the welding process....that's all.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
