Nitrogen Tanks

We're demo-ing a portion of one of our middle schools, and in the science wing under the fume hoods were 4 what look like 40 CF nitrogen tanks with very nice heavy duty regulators.  All the tanks are full, but were probably installed in the 90's.I know they are out of date and will need recert, but what could these be used for (or worth)?
Reply:Sounds like those might be fire suppression (close the hood, fill the hood with nitrogen to put the fire out).  I don't have a clue what pressure those store or if they are "regular" nitrogen tanks.  Can you read any of the markings?Larger welding tanks around here are usually about $1 per cubic foot.  These are a little more expensive for smaller tanks, but a little cheaper when bought from individuals versus the welding store.40cf is probably too small for anything but a suitcase feeder, or a portable tig setup.Are the regulators adjustable and have gauges?  They probably aren't flow-style regulators like you'd want for welding application.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:If they were for fire suppression, they would probably be CO2 tanks, which are made for a lower pressure (but I would expect that to be outside of the fume hood).  They could be helium tanks for a gas chromatograph, or maybe something entirely different.There should be a label on the collar listing what the contents are.  That can make a big difference to the value of the tanks.
Reply:Its a pressurized nitrogen purge system.C02 can react poorly to some chemicals Nitrogen is more chemically inert.

Reply:Got some pictures today.  As you can see it is nitrogen and the tanks are old (1986).  The gauges are Victor and look basically unused.  I'll probably sell off the gauges and a couple of tanks and keep 1 for straight Argon and one for mix backup. Reply:There are many uses for N2 in a lab, non of which can i think of that would be remotely useful in a middle  school science class and barely in a college chemistry course at that! HAHAI would sell those regs on ebay or anywhere for that matter.  When we used to buy new regs for tanks in my lab i think they go for ~$150 a pop so people would probably be willing to pay $80 maybe more for each of those bad boys.

Reply:You could sell the regs to a local Motorcycle shop for filling shocks.  My YZ250 uses such a shock and they do not have the required reg to fill it properly after a rebuild.  So there is a market for them.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
