Reply:It looks like that is right off the catalytic converter. The entire exhaust system is very heavy. It's possible he lost a hanger and it's been hanging or vibrating for some time.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:exhaust from down pipe thats where it goes into the catalytic converter so to speek truck has 40,000 miles on it.  no dings or dents indicating that it had been hit.63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs

Reply:No flex joint pipes...common problem on turbo systems without them. The constant hot / cold will crack, break and seperate the pipes.Besides...it's a FORD. You expect it not to break?  ...just messin'.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:for some reason due to weight restrictions this is not covered under warranty....if it was a 250 350 or 550 it would be covered.  I dont know who makes these stupid rules  I say it should be covered.   895.00  plus 2 hrs labor this company is looking at around 1100.00 for me to change it63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs
Reply:hot exhaust and water.... stream crossing or big puddle.
Reply:Nah, it's stainless. It does have to do with thermal stresses and fatigue.  Has anybody here worked on a Jeep Cherokee with the 6 cylinder and seen one that didn't have a crack on the header on the least 2 cyinders where they all converge?

Reply:Right GMC - happens on alot of factory cars with thermal stresses. As of lately, GM uses alot of cast on their exhaust manifolds.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:gremlin, where is the crack. my company 550 i had and my personal 450 both cracked around the weld to the convertor. it was form vibration i say. they were both long beds and had exhaust that went on for days. i added 2 extra hangers and rewelded. no more exhaust leak. also, are they wanting to replace the whole thing or just repair what is broke?"Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:Piece of cake fix if you can mirror weld Is that stainless to carbon? Stainless to stainless?Either way, clean it and weld it. Easy money.
Reply:Would like to know why it cracked 'cause . . . won't it just crack again past where you weld it?  Looks like the original weld did not crack.
Reply:BACKUPROLLER:   front of converter ....I am changing the whole section plus the converter63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs
Reply:Good point, and then they'll expect warranty coverage from YOU whether it was the welds or not!EDIT: if changing out the whole dealio, maybe you'll avoid whatever the factory didn't...Originally Posted by MicroZoneIt looks like that is right off the catalytic converter. Reply:I have welded a few cats like that most on ferign cars.  One I did was too late and the cat had already bit the dust due to too much fresh air getting into it.  I had to replace it anyhow.  These were bolted directly to the manifold.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I'll bet they do. I'm surprised yours doesn't, actually.  My 96 Dodge does.

Reply:Easy fix,, LOOSE THE KITTY!!! LOL  I know, tampering with any emissions device is illegal according to the USDOT....  But really it must have lost a hanger as mentioned above, and the STOCK exhaust is heavy on these, mine is a 4" turbo back STRAIGHT PIPED exhaust, the only one for a Turbo diesel...lol(My 03 did not have a Cat from the factory, FORD was very funny in how they determined what had one and what didnt, transmission was one factor, I never really figured it out. (All 6.o liters have one though)
Reply:i work for ford. no it did not loose a hanger that section was replaced and truck has not been back for any other type of repairs63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs
Reply:I would say the cause is vibration.  My car (vette) has a mandrel 3" dual exhaust system and the mufflers have a square shaped outlet.  The outlet are FOREVER cracking and then making an aweful vibrating noise that really just erks the crap out of me.  I have them replaced - they again break.  Put more thickness to them, they still break....Just the other night started the first step in replacing them......but its all from the resonance that the exhaust produces - must just vibrate the stainless like crazy...even put a support in the center as the last ditch effort...one side held, the other cracked!  The car is pretty loud and does produce a great deal of vibration if your near the rear of the car.....you can feel it in your chest...sets off car alarms all over town as I drive around.  Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 -  6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH

Reply:there is no such thing as a viberation free exhaust. its a ford they fall apart. looks like it happened over time not all at once. should of bought a cummins he wouldnt have problems like that.
Reply:Originally Posted by MAC702Both my trucks do that, but esp. the unmuffled Ford 460.Never gets old, does it?
Reply:the dodges down here have worse problems than the exhaust....lol i like cummins dont get me wrong but if you (rebeltait) what to talk about falling apart what about the chevys interior. lol63' Lincoln SA200 2008 miller trailblazer 302fibre-metal pipelinermiller camo BWEand all the guns and ammo a growin boy needs
