We have an application that requires welding Deloro Stellite 250 to 304 Stainless Steel.  We have experience joining Stellite 6 to 304SS but have no experience with the Stellite 250 material.  Can anyone advise what filler metal to use and if there would be any preheat requirements or post weld heat treat requirements when joining these alloys? Thanks
Reply:You could probably get some good advice by calling or EMailing the Stoody company which makes such alloys.
Reply:I've never used Stellite 250 either, but looking at the chemistry it won't form the hard carbide surface matrix that causes Stellite 6 to just sit there and bust all by itself. My guess is there would be no pre/post heat and the only concern with 304 would be welding with too much energy causing a slow quench and messing up the 304.This is when you get the real info from where you source the rod before you buy. When you're buying high cobalt or nickel fillers you don't stay on hold very long at all.Matt
