HelloI am a very novice welder (no formal training, just learning as I go). I am welding 1/8" 304 stainless steel rods together using a TIG welder. My shielding gas is an argon/co2 mix. The welds are very quick, typically only a second or two to get the pieces to melt together (no filler is being used). What is a good flow rate for the shielding gas? Here is a picture of what I'm working onAny help would be appreciated - thank you!charlie
Reply:Charlie,First off, get rid of that Argon/CO2 mix. NOT FOR TIG. Use straight argon.Flow rate of 15-20 CFH should be more than enough. I suspect you're using a very small cup, so you probably can get by with a little less.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc. |
