Ok, I didn't buy an expensive Digital SLR camera to get crappy blurry closeup pics like the ones I posted last time so I got the manual out and figure out how to use the digital macro lense and all the arperture settings and such. Here are some pics of my last stainless pipe attempt. It was an 1/16" open root if I remember correctly. Beveled edges. Feathered edge thickness was about 1/16". 70ish amps (I don't remember exactly it's been a few months). 100% argon. 2% Thoriated tungsten. These are my two favorite spots. The flatter area is nice but I put too much heat into it. I am happier with the thinner more humped weld. What I did was I welded a little bit, sped up/slowed down/dipped more, circled more or whatever and changed a little each time then went back and reviewed what one came out best. Slight circling/side to side with medium heat and a single good penetrating dab gave the best results. And as zap always does. The Weapon of choice. Attached Images
Reply:AH - much better...I mean the pictures. The welds look good, a little cold at first, then halfway through look real good. GOOD JOB!John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Steady..steady..steady as she goes!!Your getting there.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I really need to get a welding table in this apartment. Only time I get to use my OWN welding equipment is when I drag it all over to a friend's garage. The landlord is gonna love the light show going off when he drives by at night and glances at our bedroom window.
Reply:btw, any suggestions by looking at those two? Or does it look like I pretty much have it but need to practice making it look cleaner and more consistant?

Reply:Hehe, only light tig zapster. No sparks or spatter. I actually plan on putting it in the corner of our dining room. Linoleum is more forgiving than carpet if a hot piece drops off the table.
Reply:hmm... wonder if you couldn't put down a 'pad' of 5/8ths sheetrock?
Reply:Maybe, I have some greenboard lying around. That may work.
Reply:The pics and welds look nice. Just burn up more rod. That is all you need.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Left my hood at work so I couldn't weld this weekend. But I did prep some pieces.Beveled it and the feather width is about 3/32". Overall thickness of pipe is about 7/32" or so. More pics coming. |
