Reply:Not sure that will hold up. I hear that even the vandals are getting juiced up these days and there is no current means of putting a stop to it through random testing of their ranks.Better beef up the flag to 1/2" plate.Seriously, what you need to do is train a low-light capable video camera on that thing so you can capture some punk dislocating his elbow the next time he tries something.
Reply:sucks that it wasn't even a good swing that took the old one out. the new one should fight back pretty well.Last edited by BlatantAnomaly; 07-26-2007 at 08:23 AM.with full intent and better sense to recognize what is false and part with it.
Reply:waiting patiently to see the results of the next incident Come try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Hopefully you'll just find pieces of a Louisville slugger instead of pieces of your mailbox
Reply:What you need is some of that Blazer Reactive armor that the U.S. Army puts on people movers. It explodes on contact........

Reply:I'd have put a few nails on top to catch the bat at night. But nice work, hopefully the vandals will get themselves caught before it get's baptized.
Reply:I have build a few of those everlasting mailboxes for the same reason.Nice workDavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I built my buddies dad a mail box with some 1" plate. I checked it a few weeks later, and there was some paint smashed off, but did not receive a dent, until a semi went over it.
Reply:Maybe you should wire it for "sound" (if you know what I mean) so that the bat comes back and cracks their head open.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:Very nice work! The local vandals did that to my mailbox once but they inadvertantly failed to completely destroy it. I straightened it out with a body hammer and block and got another 25 years out of it. I just replaced it because the front door fell off. If they hit me again, the next one will be 1/4" mild steel with a 4" steel tube set in concrete. Good project for my MIG.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set

Reply:I like the idea of the camera. I installed one in my carport when my daughter was living with me cause i didn't approve of the company she was keeping. I told her that I could view it from my office or any place in the world via the internet and that is true cause i have software called Video Grabber conrolling the camera. I told her that if any of her so called friends were thinkng of stealing anything from me i would know who it was before they left the property.. I also put some stickers on the front doors that said "These premises monitored by Video and Audio cameras.. I did this for under $300..Most people will think twice if they think they are on camera..

Reply:Our town plow guy takes out our mailboxes every time one of my clueless neighbors calls the his boss to complain about the road not being plowed on time. The reactive armor sounds like a good idea to me.Tim
Reply:Nice looking design there, Coyota, if all you have to protect against is an outward attack. Vandals in my neck of the woods have resorted to blowing them up with cherry bombs, M-80's, ashcans or whatever the explosive of choice now happens to be. My last 3 attacks didn't leave any piece laying around big enough to pick up and identify. I'm ashamed to say I now go to Home Depot and buy their $8 plastic rural mailbox rather than spend time welding up a new target like you did.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
