Plates..Casters..Welding Around Corners..

The baker needs to move his ovens so they had us fab up 4 new mounting plates for the casters..I just love it when the material comes out back for me to deal with all nice and messy..Plate..The caster is not any better..Only needed about one inch on the corners welded so before you clean anything mark the weld area....Go over the slime and everything... who cares..Areas marked..Now grind off the scale where needed..Do yourself a favor..Clean the whole piece off front sides and back..The second you touch it anywhere if you dont will result in numerous trips to the sink for hand washing..There is oil and crap all over it...And it will fine its way to your hands..Next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The casters need attention also..You dont weld over this..(and its galvanised too)Grind the sides and the bottom.The yuck and crap will wick its way to your puddle and make a mess out of it..Here's where we cheat..You can use the positioner on square stuff too..And thats another way to weld around corners without stopping..Cool huh?.. Reply:Hey, I like welding and all, but why didn't they just drill and bolt the casters on?  It almost looks like the mounting plate is thick enough to drill and fine thread tap.It's not like they're worried about sanitary conditions or anything.  Like you said, all that crud and gunk on the casters and everything!+1 on the clean it off before working on it.  The crud and grease and gunk gets on your hands, tools, bench, everything and then before you know it it is smeared all over the place.
Reply:Very nice work as usual.  I'm guessing the oven has openings underneath it bigger than just the casters(but smaller than the plate)?Favorite right now is a Miller Syncro 200.Tons of tools and I blame at least one of them when things don't go right.

Reply:Thanks guys.. But the point of the matter is that it makes a huge diffrence in the finished welds when all the crap is eliminated before hand....Those pics are right off the machine.. No wire brush... Reply:what you should have said zap is look at these top quality welds, and they are crackers by the way using a 3.25 filler wire my amps were? now im just guessing here but i would say you are a pull push round the corner man i think strike arc concentrate the needle on the heavy plate tungsten pointing 45 deg?build the puddle now just slightly angle into the lighter metal wait for even pool now dip and move .now i think when zap came to the corner he twisted his wrist towards himself nice wee trick but it can look shallow on the push,zap was pushed for time or he would have treated himself to a second pass your like me zap you enjoy it .im a pull round the corner man myself stand in a position where zap finished and start further back strike arc pull needle round corner this sort of thing pipe fitter not mad anymore zap Attached Images
