Reply:More..Here's wog's "Hobo Hibachi".. Really cool though.. Dave R having a go at stitch welding on aluminum..One more time.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Here is some of the welds on aluminumNot by me however..(Well actually one of mine is..Where is it?)These are a little from everyone on the practice piece...Some are good..Some not so..But thats the point..The bottom line here is that those welds above were done after a little help from me..1000 times better then when I first handed them the torch...(We had a close call with the torch but i'll let it slide this time..Now you know what be careful of where it is at ALL times means)At first.. Now.. All they need now is a little seat time with there own equipment and then you'll see how good they will get.. Next "Weldapalooza"..Nov 10..later.. ...zap!Last edited by zapster; 08-18-2007 at 06:15 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Hey!  What a great time had by all. Many thanks to Zap again for his gracious generousity of his time, expertise and the tasty barbeque lunch.  Thanks also to everyone else who came to share knowledge of welding and also the equipment and materials they brought along for everyone to try.  We had enough stuff there to build a skyscraper before lunch.  Too much to mention but some highlights . . .clean metal -- when it looks good it does, look good that is . . . but it's not clean so clean it some more.  We all TIGged aluminum, stainless and mild in two "shifts" under Zap's watchful eye.  Picked up those needed techniques to practice at home.  Like playing the piano, the teacher can teach but only you can practice.  Consistency is the key.  I also have to work on feeding the filler through my fingers.   Zap also showed us how to fuse stainless very neatly.  By the end of the day, even mine were coming out pretty good.    Then adding filler and trying to reveal those uniform dimes.  They're in there somewhere.  I was pleased ehough with my steel beads by day's end.  Aluminum remains a challenge but I'll get it soon enough. Also did some air arc gouging, heavy flux core, and some stick welding.  David R carved his initial in 1/2" plate with the air arc and then he and Infro filled it back in with some big stick electrodes using Tozzi Welding's "monster" engine driven.  Tozzi Welding also brought out some aluminum stick electrodes and took care of a fillet weld on some thick aluminum plate.  They all make it look too easy.I haven't had a stick welding stinger in my hand since I can't remember but it was more fun than I remember and I might drag out my old buzz box as a portable.  I have to remember to slow down though.  That I could still strike an arc and run a bead (with a little coaching from Tozzi Welding, David R and Infro) after so long made me happy enough.   Zap demonstrated his signature stitch on the positioner and a bunch of us had a go at it too.  It's even harder to do than it looks. That will take a lot of practice.   Wog820 also took some video footage.  If it can be posted, it's got to be.  Top notch stuff.Plenty more but you've read enough.  Here are some pics (I wish I took more, but we were busy welding!  The pics show Zap showing us how to do something, but in reality we all got almost all of the "seat time."  It's a very "hands on" class and I'd suggest everybody who can make it give it a go.  Plus it's a lot of fun.):The day begins -- first shift:Zap shows how to fuse stainless -- hard to tell it was ever two pieces of metal.Zap tacking the piece ready for the positioner and root/stitch.The "team" getting ready to TIG.  Clean it before you weld it.
