Wondering what the best type of portable welding rod oven is to buy.Gullco seems to be popular here in Canada and is the only brand I have used.I have seen the yellow Phoenix brand around but never got a close look. Also seen Mathey Dearman, Keen and other brands. Can I get some opinions on what type is and isn't good? Thanks.
Reply:hi, here is a couple of KEENS. The cheap one is what the shop got first and it was ok but then spent alittle more and got the K-10. Well worth the 129.00 in my opinionthis the the K-5 http://www.rodovens.com/products/keen-k5-holding.htmthis is the K-10 https://www.rodovens.com/products/k-...lding-oven.htm more money but more features and better product.
Reply:my advice is to get an oven that will take 18" electrodes. you don't want to be caught out if you need to use bigger sticks on a job

Reply:Phoenix makes a nice one too"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I have a 50lb phoenix and its very nice. It really holds more like 70lbs of rod if you cram it in there.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:We have several hundred of the Phoenix type on this project. The biggest problem with them is the detachable power cords. Notorious for coming loose/unplugged, so do you have to keep an eye on the indicator lamp.
Reply:A nice feature on small portables is a hanging basket with lift hook.Raising the basket raises the electrodes above the oven's edge, for easy picking with gloved hands.Good Luck
